Pure potential of a microclimate

Pure potential of a microclimate

THE EXCEPTION MICROCLIMATE, THE PROXIMITY TO THE SEA, THE MARLY SOIL AND THE QUALITY OF WORK HAVE CREATED THE MOST FAVORABLE CONDITIONS TO CREATE A UNIQUE TERROIR

TERRACES OF THE ALTA LANGA

Vineyards

Vineyards

9 kilometers of terracing with dry stone walls created at the end of the 19th century, a determining factor for a homogeneous ripening of the bunches both from a sugar and a phenolic point of view.

Barberis Farm has its headquarters inside Cascina San Lorenzo, the historic home of the Barberis family located in the heart of the Alta Langa, in one of the most charming areas of Cortemilla.

In the background, a wild and sincere territory that extends north-east of Cuneo, among woods, rows, hazelnut groves and ancient stone villages, a landscape with an inestimable value which was awarded as World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2018. Charming but wild, in order to tame it, man had to succumb to all the difficulties that its conformations entailed.

The confirmation of the terraces and the proximity to the sea create a unique terroir that allows us to reach and guarantee a high quality standard, obtaining a real niche product.

The terraces represent a determining factor for the quality of the final product. Thanks to their steep slope, these soils are better able to absorb solar radiation and enjoy advanced thermal averages, while the stones return the heat absorbed during the day at night.

HEROIC VITICULTURE

Philosophy

Philosophy

Heroic viticulture is the obstinacy of the Alta Langa that produces extreme wines, for a challenge that continues and a miracle that is renewed.

Talking about heroic viticulture means climbing along the steep slopes of the Alta Langa in search of those terraces that have made it so famous to the eye and to the taste. The dry stone walls are wonderful to admire. And they are sustainable. Because they have become a fundamental habitat for maintaining the biodiversity of local fauna and flora and because they represent a precious ally against hydrogeological instability, a circumstance that has become anything but a rare and remote eventuality.

Crazy is the man who speaks to the moon, fool who does not heed.

Since the beginning of the activity, the alternation of the lunar phases is taken into account for processing in the vineyard and in the cellar. In decreasing moon, the pruning, to regularize the vegetation as well as rebalance the production of each individual plant, and the bottling of still wines, in order to limit the number of sterile filtrations that could impoverish them, are practiced.

We are at the service of nature. Our work as winegrowers is carried out with the utmost respect for the rhythms that govern it, following the advice it offers us and making it the fulcrum of our tradition.

YES, WE GO AGAINST THE CURRENT. WE LOVE TO DRAW FROM THAT PAST WISE THAT ALWAYS SUPPORTS US AND THAT DOESN’T STOP GIVING US GOOD ADVICE.
